Knowledge Sharing for CSB
Civilsocietybuilding.net is set up as a knowledge network. What does this mean? This section will highlight a number of relevant knowledge sharing resources to support us in our work on civil society building. (insert Arusha quote on why KS is important for CSB.)
Knowledge sharing is a critical success factor for civil society building. This is not a matter of publishing a set of 'best practices', but rather sharing examples, experiences and lessons with peers.
This knowledge network is a platform on which we can develop such a group of peers. We invite and encourage you to post your questions, provide your thoughts, experiences and opinions.

The Civil Society Partnerships Programme's first phase of work focuses on learning more about how CSOs use evidence to influence policy processes, identifying northern and southern organisations helping them to do this, and improving ODI's own information and communication activities to be more useful and accessible for CSOs. The first step is a series of consultations in different geographical regions of the developing world to learn more about the role that CSOs currently play in using evidence to promote development policy and practice, explore what they need to do it better, and to identify opportunities for small-scale collaborative work.
The first three consultations were held in Africa at the beginning of 2005. Consultations in South East Asia, South Asia, Latin America and other regions are being held mid-2005 .

Interactive technology is a key factor used to explain the recent growth and prominence of NGOs, who today are engaged in the transformation of national, international and transnational political space. Yet technology cannot explain NGOs¹ rise, for technology is but a context which afford opportunities. We ask what it is that allows NGOs to take advantage of new circumstances, and focus our discussion on the co-evolution of NGOs with interactive technology. Our approach is part of a growing body of social science research that seeks to overcome the artificial divide between "society" and "technology" by viewing the social as consisting of humans and non-humans (objects, things, artifacts). Viewing technology not as a tool but as part of a co-evolutionary process that shapes organizational forms and practices will help us understand why NGOs have, given the opportunities provided by the retrenchment of the welfare state and the end of the cold war, been able to assume a more powerful and controversial role as co-constituents of global transformation.
